If you want to remodel your bathroom, it may not be as expensive as you think...

Bathroom remodeling starts out with what appears to be a good plan.  That is,until you get estimates on how much it will cost.  What makes bathroom remodeling so expensive is when you are looking at taking out existing items like tile and grout as well as removing a bathtub or sink.   You could be stuck doing a remodeling project in pieces, and run the risk of having colors not match. In addition, removing sinks, toilets and bathtubs effectively makes the bathroom in question unusable for an indefinite period of time.  You may wish to look at another option.

Tile cleaning alone can remove soap scum and mildew as well as restoring your bathroom tile to a like new appearance.  It can also remove any discoloration from the grout as well.  But how do you keep the tile and grout clean?

Renovating Your Bathroom With Grout Sealing

Remodeling is all about details.  Most people just clean the tile and grout on the bathroom floor but what about the shower tile? Cleaning shower tile and grout requires a different focus than other tile does.  For example grout joints start deteriorating which leads to cracked tiles if you're not careful.  You also want to seal tile in the shower to keep the grout intact as well as your tile looking beautiful.

If you seal your grout, it keeps stains out and can last for years without any touch-ups needed.  You can also do grout color sealing on your bathroom tile, giving it a fresh new look.  And no one will be able to tell that your bathroom remodeling cost a lot less than a regular remodeling job would have, and with much less inconvenience.

Natural Stone Care and Types of Stone Part 2

Part two of a two part series on natural stone care explores where different stone comes from and the chemical composition of it. This is good information to know to take proper care of your floor and/or your counter tops...

Natural Stone Care: Slate Tips

Slate requires much different stone care than sandstone does. Slate comes from shale in old clay beds. Slate is fine-grained, used on roofs, as tile or in some cases used to make furniture. Slate is often cut into thin sheets. Slate is made of a combination of muscovite, quartz, and some other trace minerals like hematite and tourmaline. Slate is usually gray in appearance, but can take on many different hues. Slate mined in North Wales for example can be gray, purple, or green. Although slate is both fireproof and fairly durable, it is also susceptible to chipping and cracking because of its fine nature. NEVER clean slate with acid based chemicals, as this will cause your stone to deteriorate. A stone care service would be able to properly polish your slate as well as recommend some tips.

Sandstone: A Different Level of Stone Care

Sandstone, on the other hand, is a much softer stone, relatively speaking. Sandstone has been widely used around the world in constructing buildings such as temples, cathedrals, and other buildings. Since it is porous, having a company apply impregnating stone sealer is imperative. Sandstone is treated with this sort of sealer when it's produced and you want to keep up the waterproof seal. To clean sandstone, wash it with warm water and dish soap. Rinse with fresh water. Don't let the water stay on there too long in case there are any gaps in the stone sealer. If you know how, grind your stone with a a 50-grit diamond-polishing pad. Grind the sandstone while it is still wet from being rinsed. If you don't know how to grind sandstone, you may actually want to call in a San Antonio stone care service.

Natural Stone Care and Types of Stone Part 1

Natural stone care is a way of protecting your investment. After all, regardless of what type of natural stone you have, it is an investment...

Natural Stone Care and Calcium Based Stone

What do travertine, marble, and limestone have in common? Well, other than the fact that they're natural stone, they're also all calcium based stone. As such, they require different care than stone such as slate. How different? Well, did you know that if you pour anything acidic on calcium based stone such as orange juice, coffee, vinegar, or wine it can eat away at the stone? It's true. What's more, it can stain.

Marble is elegant, beautiful, but surprisingly prone to damage from acid, travertine is too. Look at Rome for example. The city had to spend millions in refurbishing the many fine works of marble that had eroded due to acid rain. A stone restoration service in San Antonio would be able to bring back your stone to whatever polish level you want, even sometimes in the event of a spill.

Natural Stone Care: Know What Your Stone Needs First

Slate and sandstone are different from each other and thus require very different care from each other. Terracotta and terrazzo sound very similar to each other, but also require different levels of attention. Slate and sandstone for example do well by grinding, but if you tried that on terracotta and terrazzo, you would end up damaging your floor. It's also not the best idea to mop sandstone, because it would be likely to retain any stains from dirty mop water. Sandstone is incredibly porous. A stone cleaning service would be able to clean your sandstone and seal it against spills as well. As you see, stone types are very different from one another. Make sure you know what you're doing, or you could run the risk of damaging your stone. There is however, a better strategy. You may wish to think about calling in a natural stone care service instead.

Grout Color Sealing: What it Is and Why You Should Get It Part 2

Part two of our article on color sealing explores more reasons for getting it done as well as some decorating ideas...

Grout Color Sealing: Where It Can Be Done

As we discussed in our last article on color sealing, sealing grout protects it, while at the same time giving it a more uniform appearance. Most people assume it is only for the floor, however, that's only one place that can benefit. Grout color sealing can be done to most tile surfaces, including counter-tops, floors, and bathrooms. An important thing to note, is that only certain types of tile benefit from grout color sealing. As a rule the tile in question should be ceramic or porcelain and the grout needs to be sand-based for the sealer to bond properly. It makes sense if you think about it. You wouldn't want to color seal an expensive natural stone tile such as marble or travertine. As to the colors you can pick, that depends.

Color Sealing-A Full Palette of Colors

There are several different grout manufacturers out there, each with their own menu of color choices. Manufacturers such as Tec, Laticrete, and Mapei are the ones most used out there. Grout color sealing can match the colors of the major manufacturers, and complement them. So if you have River Rock from Laticrete, or Raven from Tec, you can match the color and restore your grout back to its original color. Color sealing can be matched to the existing color of your grout, and most companies can match the manufacturer's color palate. If your grout is taken care of, it can last anywhere between five and ten years before any touch-up work is needed. One of the most important steps of the process is grout preparation. A professional grout cleaning company has the proper tools, training, and experience to achieve top-notch results. Once the grout has been prepared, the sealant is applied with meticulous detail. Even so, it takes surprisingly very little time complete a grout color sealing project.

Grout Color Sealing: What it Is and Why You Should Get It Part 1

Grout color sealing is an effective and relatively inexpensive way of giving your floor a brand new look. This two part article explores this strategy, and why it works...

What is Grout Sealing?

There are several options for grout sealing in San Antonio. Clear sealant takes the existing grout and merely seals the grout and tile as is. Color sealing, however, seals your grout and changes the color. Both types of sealant provide stain protection, waterproofing, and stain resistance. However, what type of sealing you do depends on what you want to do with your floor. If you are satisfied with the color of your grout, then your best bet is to get clear grout sealing done. This will keep your grout color, and protect it. However, if you have pre-existing stains, blemishes, or you really want to remodel without paying an exorbitant price to rip out your floor and replace it, then you may wish to look at another option.

Grout Color Sealing: Protection and a Brand New Look

If you want to replace your floor, be prepared to pay. Depending on the type of flooring you have or want, you may end up spending thousands of dollars to get it all replaced. Another option to consider is to get grout color sealing done instead. Sealing grout eliminates stains or discoloration. Color sealer repels liquids of different types. If you spill red wine, coffee, or orange juice on an unsealed grout line, you are going to have a very obvious and ugly stain. With color sealant applied, however, you have protection against stains. In addition, a sealed floor is also a healthy floor. Grout is highly absorbent. After all it's made of sand. Any liquid that seeps into grout also exposes you to known health risks such as mildew, mold, or bacteria. So as you see, there are several reasons why you should consider getting grout color sealing done in your home or business.

Grout is more than just spacing between your tile. It is also a buffer or protection between your tile. Even tile that is made of a relatively hard substance like stone can crack if there is no grout between the tiles. Missing grout can cause the other grout surrounding the tile to erode as well. A grout cleaning company in San Antonio, Texas will be able to remedy missing grout, and seal it so that it is protected. You may be surprised at what such a flooring professional can do. Did you know that you can re-color your floor with grout color sealing? The effects are truly amazing, and even customers who have had it done do a double take and start to think they had their floor replaced. Companies that provide this service often wear many hats besides these.
